Reflecting on JSG’s Past, Present, & Future with Ken Slater

As we edge closer to the new year, we thought it was important to take a moment to reflect on JSG’s milestones over the last 35 years. Our company has experienced remarkable growth and exciting changes that we want to highlight. Looking to 2020 and beyond, JSG’s growth and improvement is not looking to slow down by any means. With plans to improve efficiency, development, and growth, JSG’s future appears bright. We had the opportunity to sit down with Ken Slater, Johnson Service Group’s Executive Vice President, to hear his thoughts on the exceptional year we’ve had as a company, as well as what’s in store for JSG in 2020.

Looking back on 2019, what were the major themes for JSG?

2019 has been a relatively big year at JSG for achieving goals. During the month of September, JSG hit a significant milestone in our business, celebrating our 35th anniversary since our incorporation. Additionally, we were named to three prestigious Staffing Industry Analyst lists for the fifth year in a row. These achievements do not come without all our employees’ focused effort and continued thoughtful reinvestment into the company.

Over the past year, we have put an emphasis on growing and improving the agility of our back office. Along with the expansion of our IT Team, we have implemented enhanced cyberinfrastructure and several new tools and software programs. One of which is an upgraded Accounting and Finance platform that will help to streamline our billing and payroll processes. On the sales and recruiting side, we have added and expanded our usage of multiple tools to help identify and communicate with candidates, employees, and prospects.

Lastly, this year, we facilitated the retirement and exit of one of our founders. This step has helped to start restructuring our company’s leadership. We are now able to establish and enable a clear path for communication and decision making both now and in the future. This has led us to establish a company-wide initiative of “One Voice,” with the whole company coming together behind a common mission to help our clients reach their goals by hiring talented people.

What is JSG’s outlook and strategy going into 2020?

In 2020, our plan is to continue with the strategies and foundation we have been building since our inception. Our main goal is to be able to continue efficiently aligning our strengths with our clients’ needs. Our staff will continue to provide exceptional service with a strong sense of urgency, attention to detail, and follow-through.

With the establishment of “One Voice,” our focus is to continue to prepare JSG for generational longevity and thoughtful growth.  We plan to continue building and developing our team to be able to continue offering valued specialized staffing services for another 35 years and beyond.
