The Job Market is Hot – Here’s How to Take Advantage of it

job market

Last week the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) reported 7.3 million job openings – the most since they began keeping track in 2000! An estimated 3.5 million of those individuals voluntarily left their jobs, presumably, for better opportunities and greener pastures. There’s no doubt that the job market is hot!

So, what can you do to take advantage of the hot job market? What if you’re not ready to take the plunge and leave your job, but want to be made aware of your options? Whatever your situation, we have compiled some tips to get you the job you want.

Update your resume

Should you choose to explore the job market, there are a couple of things to remember. First, you’ll need to submit a resume. If it has been a couple of years since you last applied, you need to update your listed experiences. Certain resume trends have fallen out of favor over the years, so make sure your resume contains what employers want to see!

Utilize the internet and all the resources it can provide for your career. Online job boards like those found at Johnson Service Group or LinkedIn put new career opportunities at your fingertips. Your LinkedIn profile also serves as your online resume and digital showcase.

Practice makes perfect

You should also begin brushing up on your job interview skills. Once you make it past the application stage, you will most likely face an interview. Whether it’s in person, over the phone, or on digital video, practice will give you the highest chance at success. It is never a bad idea to take a moment or two to review!

Partner with a recruiter

In today’s job market, your best option for career success is to partner with a professional. If you are looking to make a change in your career, you need to talk to a recruiter. With their networking and expertise, you may gain access to exclusive job openings, excellent referrals, and interview prep services.

Not quite ready to commit, but want to stay up to date on possible opportunities? Communicate that! With the LinkedIn tips above, we give you the tools to design a profile that advertises your strengths and skills. Recruiters will look at these profile components when searching to find qualified candidates for a job. By selecting the option that reads, “Let recruiters know you’re open to new opportunities,” in the “Career Interests” section, you do just that. It is essentially a green light that tells recruiters you want to be contacted!
